A quick update from Ndola 2008:
-Still alive, no malaria yet. Not even any mosquito bites. Contemplating stopping the Lariam and even ditching the mosquito net at night.
-We've been hanging out in the hospital every day, attending patient rounds with the residents. That's been ok, and actually getting a good feel for the local medical environment. Mostly malaria, HIV/AIDS, and PCM (protein-calorie malnutrition). They've been losing 2-5 kids every night, and a kid has died while we've been there on 2 of the 3 days so far. There are some pretty sick kids here.
-We're supposed to bring the supplies to the hospital for donation tomorrow (estimated $15,000 USD worth). The 'media team' wants to come to shoot video. I'm not stoked on that, but whatever.
-Sure wish we were going to Victoria Falls & on safari again at the end of the trip... but I'm definitely looking forward to another 20+ hours to sleep again.
-Gotta finish "Fool's Gold" too! (Not.)
-The Zambian president (Mwanmasa) died today. Pandemonium has not ensued. I'm really glad we're not in Zimbabwe right now.
-I'm about halfway done with my last box of Good 'n Plenty, but I've got a bag of Sour Patch Kids stashed in my bag... so I think we're going to be ok here. I appreciate your concern. Have to thank THE WIFE for the snack-foresight too. Not sure I would have had time to collect the carbs before we left, and that could have been disastrous.
-Not sure if that's how you spell 'disastrous'.
-Yep, it is.
-OK, the reason I'm bored & looking up spelling online is because THE WIFE has the room key, and she won't be back for another hour or so. Looking forward to a shower to wash the tuberculosis off.
-Only 1 more day at the hospital, and then a day of debriefing and doing medical assessments on students & staff at the university. Sunday we travel again. YAY FUN!
